Floating
The Kettle River is known for the rapids that lie between Banning State Park and the city of Sandstone, Minnesota.
The river is nearly eighty miles long, the white water section is just over a mile. That leaves a lot of river to be explored by flat water paddlers.
Robinson park in Sandstone, has great access for paddling flat water on the Kettle River. Going up river from Robinson Park, paddle to Wolf Falls or keep going to the Devil's Gate rapids.
Paddle down river and after a short portage at big spring falls, you can float your boat all the way to the St Croix and beyond.
You can hike right from Robinson Park, in Sandstone, all the way to Robinson State Park. Just fallow the west bank up the river, hike past Wolf Creek Falls, another mile and you're at the Hell's Gate rapids. From here trails take you all the way into Banning Park. Great views of the rapids and a peek at a ghost town reward the adventurer who explores these trails.
